UC policy on outside consulting activities is stated in Conflict of Commitment and Outside Professional Activities (APM 025) (PDF). Faculty are limited to 39 days of outside activities during the academic year, with further restrictions on the summer period if also paid from university sources. All faculty are required to report annually on their activities and designate the number of days spent on each activity. For certain categories of activities, faculty must receive prior approval from their chair and dean to participate. For implementation guidelines, check the Academic Personnel Office website.
