College Writing Programs (642-5570) offers two courses specifically tailored to the needs of students who are non-native speakers of English: a composition course for undergraduates who have not yet satisfied the Entry Level Writing Proficiency Requirement (formerly known as the Subject A requirement), and a course in the grammar and vocabulary of written English, which is open to undergraduates and graduate students. Students who are non-native speakers of English are also welcomed into the Programs' advanced composition courses, course in digital video, course in professional communication, and course in public speaking.

College Writing Programs also offers the Summer English Language Institute. Courses offered include American Language and Culture, ESL, and English for Specific Purposes.

UC Berkeley Extension’s International Diploma Programs (642-2564) provide intensive academic programs in specialized fields of business, marketing, and technology.
