The Berkeley International Office (642-2818) assists international students and scholars throughout their stay at UC Berkeley. Some of the primary services offered by the Berkeley International Office are: issuance of the I-20 (F-1) and DS-2019 (J-1) forms necessary for students and visitors to obtain U.S. visas; providing orientation programs for new arrivals, advising support for students and scholars on matters related to their legal, personal, and practical concerns; and holding on-going information meetings about work permission, taxes, and a variety of other topics.

International House (I-House) (642-9490) is a coeducational residential and program center designed to foster intercultural exchange and understanding. About 60% of the residents are international students and 40% are from the U.S. 65% are graduate students and visiting scholars and the remainder upper-division undergraduate students. I-House arranges a rich array of cultural, social, and recreational events, which are open to nonresident members through the I-House Program Office (642-9460). Flexible meal plans are available for non-residents through I-House Dining Services (642-9477).

Financial aid to help meet the cost of room and board at International House is available to graduate and upper-division international students (F1 or J1), U.S. citizens, and permanent residents. Applicants must have completed at least one academic year at UC Berkeley and must demonstrate financial need. Information is available on I-House's website.
