How do I respond to students who have emotional or psychological problems? prev next

Students can be referred to Counseling and Psychological Services at the Tang Center, University Health Services 2222 Bancroft Way, 642-9494, for any level of need. Services include crisis intervention and counseling, individual and group counseling, psychiatric medical evaluations, and assessment and referral. For urgent concerns, students can be seen on a drop-in basis without an appointment.  In addition, CPS encourages faculty/staff to call for consultation when uncertain how to respond or what to do to connect the student with help.  Call 642-9494 Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Faculty may also find How to Assist the Distressed Student helpful for suggestions on how to cope with and assist troubled or difficult students in and out of the classroom.  This webpage provides a link to a comprehensive toolkit, Assisting the Emotionally Distressed Student: A Guide for Faculty and Staff.
