How do I protect property on campus against theft? prev next

The UCPD Crime Prevention Unit publishes B-Safe Bulletins (available online or at 1 Sproul Hall), covering topics including preventing theft of University and personal property.

UCPD provides consultation for installation of card access and CyberKey security systems to campus departments, and assists with existing systems. Contact the Crime Prevention Unit at 643-8988 for security surveys and assistance with card access. If you wish to change an office or lab lock, ask your department business manager, or appropriate staff person, to submit request forms to UCPD.

Bike theft is big business in California. UCPD strongly recommends that you license your bicycle with either the campus or your local police department. Licensing your bicycle increases the likelihood of recovery in case of theft. In addition, if UCPD stops you while riding a bicycle without a valid license, you could be subject to citation. UCPD provides licensing to the campus community. For up-to-date information, call 642-6760 or check online.

University insurance programs do not cover the personal property of faculty members unless gross negligence on the part of the University is determined to be the cause of damage or loss, or you have formally loaned your property to the University to conduct University business. Contact the Office of Risk Management (642-5141) for advice.
