Welcome to the University of California, Berkeley and to the Faculty
Guide to Campus Life. Although life at a large, vibrant university
like UC Berkeley is too diverse to be covered completely in a single
volume, we have tried hard to address the most commonly asked questions
and to direct you to most of the resources this campus has to offer.
As you will see from the Table of Contents, weve tried to
answers questions you might have as a faculty member, not only about
your life in the classroom and the laboratory, but as someone living
in the Bay Area, or considering moving to the Bay Area. You can
find out how to get help using your computer, where to find teaching
assistance, and what programs provide academic support for your
students, but you can also find out how to become involved in the
cultural and social life of the campus: Cal Performances brings
world-class musicians, dancers, and theater artists to campus; the
Department of Music features concerts and other musical performances;
the Pacific Film Archive offers a daily program of classic and avant-garde
films and houses a large collection of movies.
The Faculty Guide is intended as a reference, but we hope that youll
take some time to browse through it, too. There will certainly be
resources that you hadnt thought about, people and offices
on campus whose mission is to make your academic life as productive
as possible.
Please remember that since this is a PDF version of the online guide,
you may not find detailed answers to all of your questions, but
you will find phone numbers and web addresses that will lead you
to more complete information.
If you have any questions about the Guide, please feel free to call
us at the Office of Educational Development, (510) 642-6392 or email
us at avpue@berkeley.edu.
Again, welcome to Berkeley. Youve joined one of the most exciting
intellectual and cultural communities in the world, and we hope
the Faculty Guide proves valuable to you in making use of the campuss
vast resources.
